Community Art in Parts: What is Community Art?

“Art can inspire anyone, especially when created by everyone.”

LWD is presenting Art in Parts, a three part Community Art project.

The Tate Modern defines community art as,

“artistic activity that is based in a community setting, characterized by interaction or dialogue with the community”.

And at LWD, we really enjoy words and wordplay, so we decided to come up with our own definition of Community Art:

noun \kə-ˈmyü-nə-tē-‘ärt\ : a creative and engaging, often interactive, activity offered in a convivial setting.

Everyone, and yes, that means you.

LWD Community Art is for all ages and artistic abilities. Our goal, like our mission, is to cultivate curiosity, and that curiosity is enough to get you started with any of our Community Art projects.

August 16th & 23rd from 5:30 – 9:30pm (Both dates are, of course, Fridays –as the event host is Friday Night Live!) To learn more click here.

Want to participate in all three parts? Follow us on social media, where we’ll announce the locations of parts two and three soon!

Downtown Traverse City, Michigan

LWD and our Sister Projects have been creating and facilitating community art projects and workshops since 2007 –our goal has always been to engage, to inspire, and to help all of us connect though the act of creating art.

Community art, just like a community itself, is reliant on each participant, and the more involvement the better. As we brainstormed concepts for our 2019 project, we realized that art can inspire anyone, especially when created by everyone.

Follow the project on social media Twitter, and Facebook. And if you are in the Northern Michigan area, join us and get inspired.

If you can’t make it to Friday Night Live, don’t worry, there is more to come: check out our other events here.
